The Year That Was.........

The heading for the blog reminds me of a popular TV news show, "The World This Week " that used to be on DD anchored by Prannoy Roy, and the last episode for the year used to have the same name," The Year That was", showing major happenings of the year
Year for me started on a bad note and hopfully if all goes well in next 1 hour, should end on a relatively better note.
What as per me were the events that made headlines........or The Year That Was by me :)
1. Congress coming back to power - Mixed reactions , didn't wanted Vajpayee to go back but wasnot impressed by BJP either.
2. Kahani Ambani gher ki - This was a shocker to me, two borothers one a Wharton passout and other a Stanford passout, spilling their private brawls so openly.
3. Verrapan - Colleague from offsore calls up at 8 in the morning, to inform me. As in life mystery stayed with him till death.
4. Tsunami - Not many would have heard of it before the black sunday. I admit I didn't know about it. But now it has an imprint left on millions.
5. Sensex - All time high, it has attracted interest of those who considered it forte for bigwigs . For example my mother, today she inquired about the Infy stock and what are the prospects if we invest in it now. Was surprised a bit but more or less happy, that now she thinks of it as an investment.

Was not in a mood to write today...missing my friends at home.....
Anyhow
Wishing all my near and dear ones a great new year.
Sarang was the first one to wish me, he is in Melbourne. Great place to be at the time of new year, esp when Australia is playing.

The day after Tsunami, children playing at Phuket beach,Thailand. Completly oblivious of the havoc it incurred, the previous day.We always have something to learn from kids... Posted by Hello

Me (My Work)

Its holiday season out here, giving me enough time for writing my blogs.
Though my haircut saloon seems to be making a point to prove I guess. No appointments and whenever I go there without one with a hope that he would not turn me away, it greets me with a board saying "We are Closed". This has happened 3 times in a row.

I work for a Retail client, and holiday season is considered to be the most hectic for them. We call it the Peak, as the system reaches to its full capability/capacity.
But out here in IT office in Kentucky, the "peak" seems to have an altogether different meaning. Its peak time for no work all play, peak time for taking all the offs u want, its peak time for parties, etc., etc. Me being in prod support, I have to be on call. But except for that odd call, life seems to be going on smoothly rather cruising on smoothly, except when some bug-fix or development issue is assigned to U that acts as an odd bumper.
How does a typical day begins out here................
Get up at 8-9-10-11( whatever time suits U :) ), as U have to be in office by 12:30.
Once in office crib about evrything that is under the sun, as if U are the only positive thing around. Typical work constitues writing shell scripts, sqls, code reviews and a bit of coding.
This was the same work I used to do at offshore, but out here the pressure is more. By pressure, I mean value addition to whatever u deliver:)
Return home at around 6 or 7 then lie around, watch TV, roam to nearby places..............
Off-late, I have started the GMAT prep so trying to keep myself busy with it.

I shall try to be more regular with my blogs, for now

I

Hmmm Well I am new to this blog thing, so just thought Y not give a try. After all, a journey of thousnad miles begins with a single step.

Who am I? U must be wanting to know that. No frills attached , a typical average small towm lad, who dreamt of big things. Never thought what to do after those dreams come true. During my engg years, I dreamt if I get a job with good company that would be it and there shall be no complains about my 4 years of total fun and guilt associated with it. Now I am there with a top notch firm, who has also sent me for a long onsite assignment. It seems life again has taken has a full circle and it is facing me with the same question . What next???

Don't want to stick to this IT job for ever. It gives u money no doubt but no satisfaction.CAT often crosses the mind, but I have tried to catch it twice with no success what so ever. May be I am too good for IIMs :))
Shall be writing about a typical day at onsite in my next post...........
For the time being its adios.
Signing off with typical Calvin mark:" Happiness is not enough for me, I demand euphoria".
Reading Calvin often reminds me of Harshit, I often wonder how much energy and zeal that kid derives out of nothing. May be we adults should take some lessons from him.
